One
thing I've never
been able to
understand is
how could
someone hurt
something so
precious as a
cute little
animal like the
above puppies? I
guess I've
always been an
animal lover. My
mom is the same
way. She even
has the ability
to domesticate a
bull. Yes, a
bull. My father
bought a bull
for them to
raise. Strictly
for the meat,
mind you. He had
this fantastic
idea that it
would be a lot
cheaper to buy a
very young bull,
fatten it up and
then slaughter
it. One thing he
didn't take into
account is that
my mother has
this uncanny
ability to
"talk"
to the animals.
She went out
daily to feed
this bull, make
sure it had
water, etc. But
while out there
she would pet it
and talk to it.
By the time it
was to slaughter
this animal my
mother had this
bull so
domesticated
that she didn't
have the heart.
She told my
father that
under no
circumstances was
he going to
"murder"
Baby. Yes, my
mother had named
the bull! My
father was
defeated. I
found it funny,
but saw it
coming when I
noticed one day
after mom had
pulled up in the
yard after
grocery
shopping,
"Baby"
set to mooing
and wouldn't
stop. I heard
mom say
"Ok, Baby,
I'm
coming!"
She put her
groceries down,
ice cream and
all, and walked
over to that
bull and gave
him hugs and
kisses and
talked to him
for awhile. I
learned then
that he did that
every time she
would come back
from going
somewhere and if
she didn't go
give him
attention he
would get very
upset. Finally,
Baby had just
gotten to big
for the yard. So
my father
arranged for him
to be put in a
pasture with
cows to live out
his final days.
Mom would go up
there, every day
at first, then
gradually slowed
down. The last
time she went up
there he didn't
even walk over
to her. He was
finally adjusted
to his new home
and seemed to be
very happy. He
lived out his
days there until
he died of old
age. My mom has
befriended
things like raccoons
and opossums.
Her current
charges are
birds. She has a
peacock that
pretty much runs
her life along
with the many
finches, parakeets,
and love birds
in her house.
I
developed her
love for
animals, but I
was more into
cats and dogs.
But wouldn't
think nothing of
helping baby
birds that fell
out of their
nests, helping
turtles cross
the street so
they wouldn't
get run over,
etc. I do draw
the line though.
I will not
befriend bulls
or raccoons or opossums.
lol But I do
have a soft
heart and will
take in any cat
or dog that
needs help.
At
the moment I
only have one
dog. She rules
my life pretty
much. We are
going to be
getting a cat
this summer
since my
youngest son has
this love for
animals too and
his favorite
animal is the
cat. I figure if
there is any
animal out there
that can protect
itself against
my Ariel, it
will be a cat.
:)
When
I buy an animal
I will NOT buy
from a pet
store. Their
animals are
acquired from
puppy mills and
I do NOT support
a puppy mill. To
breed animals
for the pure
sake of
money/profit is
not the reason
to breed an
animal. I'm a
firm believer in
spaying and
neutering your
animals. Ariel
is not yet
spayed but will
be. She is just
to spoiled to
handle having
babies. Even
though I would
very much love
to have one of
her offspring's
also. And I know
my mother would
love to have one
too. She spoils
Ariel as much,
if not more,
than I do. She
will make
special trips to
the pet store
before seeing
Ariel just to
buy her a toy or
treats. Most of
the time both.
She will call
here and before
she says
anything I hear
"Put my
baby on."
And if you
mention
"Granny"
within earshot
of Ariel she
starts to jump
up and down, run
to the door,
bark, and is
ready to go see
her
"Granny".
:)
I
also absolutely
LOATHE when I
see a dog tied
up in a yard, or
even in cages in
the yard. This
upsets me so
much. Why have
an animal if all
you are going to
do is chain it
up and forget
about it?
Animals have
feelings too.
They deserve
everything you
do. Luckily,
here where I
live, there is a
law that makes
it illegal to
have a dog
chained up
outside for more
than 3 hours at
a time. When I
heard this it
actually brought
tears to my
eyes, because I
finally live
somewhere, where
they really do
protect their
animals.
Please,
if you get an
animal, make
sure you want
that animal for
the right
reasons. Make
sure you are
willing to treat
that animal as
if it were one
of the family.
Make sure it has
a place in your
heart.
